Oswald Cos. appoints a new marketing director

Oswald Cos. appointed a Chief Marketing Officer and a Chief Communications Officer in a move that underscores the company’s overall growth efforts, including through an aggressive mergers and acquisitions strategy.

This all follows Oswald’s merger with Baltimore-based insurance brokerage RCM&D in December 2020, a deal that resulted in the creation of Cleveland-headquartered Unison Risk Advisors.

Last spring, Unison received a minority equity investment from Canadian private equity firm Peloton Capital Management.

“Oswald has already achieved monumental growth through Peloton’s investment and our partnership with RCM&D, and we are not slowing down,” Oswald Chairman Robert Klonk said in a statement. “As Oswald and Unison Risk Advisors explore new opportunities for expansion, it is important to improve our marketing strategy to increase visibility in all of our markets.”

This prompted the promotions of Christina Capadona-Schmitz to director of marketing and the hiring of Shannon Mortland as director of corporate communications.

In her new role, Capadona-Schmitz – who joined Oswald in 2013 and has worn many hats as director of marketing, communications and media – will lead “the planning and execution of enterprise-wide efforts. business, including branding, visibility and growth strategies for Oswald’s business units, specialist divisions and regional office markets,” according to the firm.

Mortland, meanwhile, “will lead all internal and external communications, as well as community sponsorships and partnerships,” the firm said.

Before joining Oswald this summer, Mortland was vice president of regional media relations for PNC Bank. Mortland is a former Crain’s Cleveland Business reporter who serves on the board of the Press Club of Cleveland.

“Christina’s efforts, talents and leadership have made her a vital part of Oswald’s expansive growth over the past decade. She has built and grown a professionally managed marketing practice, highlighted through the development and advancement of our talented team of marketing, communications and design professionals,” Oswald President Jessica Jung said in a statement.

“The addition of Shannon marks an exciting new chapter for us. Her professional expertise, coupled with our increased focus on strategic communication with internal and external partners, will help position Oswald for even greater success.”

Oswald has 625 employee-owners at 12 locations in the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest.

The company ranks 76th among private companies in northeast Ohio in 2022, according to Crain’s research, with annual revenue of approximately $155 million in 2021.
