Lyla Steenburgen to lead Westport Rotary Club for the year 2021-2022 – The Westport Local Press


The Westport Rotary Club officially inaugurated Lyla Steenburgen as President for the year 2021-2022 during its annual Pass-the-Gavel Lobster Cook, held on June 25 at the Ned Dimes Marina in Saugatuck Beach. in Westport.

Lyla is currently working as a Gift Advancement Officer at the Bridgeport Hospital Foundation / Yale New Haven Health. Growing up with an exposure to different cultures, including family home exchanges and a student exchange, Lyla developed a passion for diverse cultures and for giving back. She then worked in public relations at Burson-Marsteller and for many years as a marketing manager at The Hertz Corporation in New York. His development career began with fundraising campaigns at the Westport Country Playhouse and St. Vincent’s Medical Center.

Lyla graduated from Bryn Mawr College, where she conducted independent research on indigenous peoples and lived in the Amazon Basin in Peru. After graduation, she was appointed Baker Scholar and obtained an MBA from the Stern School of Business at New York University. Lyla and her husband, Peter Steenbergen, MD (retired), reside in Easton. Her daughter, son-in-law and two young grandchildren reside in Woodbridge.

“During the pandemic, a lot has been written about happiness and how to thrive in life,” Lyla said. “Experts all say it comes from connecting, belonging, being a part of something bigger than yourself, getting involved and helping others – that’s Rotary. Rotary gives us the opportunity to be of service to the world in exchange for living there. We are better citizens and healthier because of it. I think Rotary is exactly what a lot of people aspire to.

The Westport Rotary Club is an organization of men and women representing a cross section of local businesses and professional leaders who volunteer on a variety of local and international projects to improve the quality of life in their home communities and in the world.

The Westport Rotary Club meets weekly Tuesdays (except the last Tuesday of the month) from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Branson Hall, Christ & Holy Trinity Church and on Zoom.
